Blocks

Blocks are what enable your IP.Content website to move beyond static content and mix in truly dynamic community content.

Feed Blocks: Grab Community Data

Feed blocks are one of the unique killer features of IP.Content. They can grab all kinds of data directly from your community, including topics, member profiles & statistics, articles, blog entries, gallery images, RSS feeds and much more. Then, edit the block template, and display the content on your IP.Content website with ease. Feeds are completely configurable, so you can extract precisely the data you need: pull member profiles with a certain post count, find posts above a certain rating or perhaps return only pinned topics. IP.Content Feed Blocks makes all these decisions easy to implement!

Plugin Blocks: Add Functionality

Plugin blocks are a way of adding neatly contained, ready-made blocks of functionality to your IP.Content website. Show a member's "online friends" list, or members who are currently active in your community, or an overview of the content the member is "watching" (subscribed to). We ship a number of useful plugin blocks with IP.Content ready for you to use immediately, or you can download other blocks made by other people - or even write your own.

Custom Blocks: Reusable Content

Custom blocks are a blank canvas, enabling you to create content that can be easily reused in any number of places. Use them for your advertising banners, build a menu system, combine other blocks to build a sidebar, or if you're a developer, use them as a convenient way of storing variables which can be used in pages, other blocks and templates. Custom blocks can be created using plain HTML, IP.Board BBCode or even full PHP, giving you huge scope for building exactly what your website needs.

Use Them Anywhere

Blocks give you enormous flexibility to insert dynamic content wherever you want - and not just within IP.Content! Blocks can be used in templates, pages, and even nested inside other blocks. But best of all, they can be used in ordinary IP.Board templates too, to bring dynamic and custom content capabilities to all areas of your community.

Ways to use Blocks

There's hundreds of ways to use blocks, depending on what you want to achieve. Here are just a few ideas.

  • "Top Members" Feed
Create a block that shows top contributors in your community. There's lots of scope to set your own definition of 'top'; sort by number of posts, or by highest reputation, by user rating and more.

  • "Latest Subscribers" Feed
Let's assume you have a usergroup for paying members. You could create a feed showing "Latest Subscribers" by limiting a member feed to that group, then sorting by join date. An easy way to highlight members supporting your community financially!

  • Blog Feed
Blocks don't have to be small sidebar feeds. Add a block that pulls in all blog entries from your community blogs, style it with some template changes, and you have a full community blog overview right on your homepage.

  • Custom Ad Integration
Use custom blocks to build your own ad insertion script. Keep it simple and just paste in your AdSense code, or go more complex with a PHP block that adds custom variables for your ad server to receive.
